Orientation Class - A different experience...
Yeah, I met some (very few) friends on that day. None of my old friends were there in the college, so it is important for me to have good friends. I still remember my first friend. He is Anish of A batch. One guy named Dhanesh was in that batch, he too studied with me in Entrance Coaching Classes. I earlier met some friends in Orkut. Shajeer and Nakul are two of them. Yup, we hadnt spend much time in college. There we went home. The second day of college life also gone into air.
My first step into the college.....
I along with my mother departed from home earlier in the morning, but reached there only at 9.30. I got the token and spend some time in the Amphi (dont know whether it is eastern or western). We had some chat with the seniors (the chettanmars of gec). The one thing that is really disturbing my heart is ragging. Even some friends told me that this college is ragging free, but I hadnt believed. The brothers of Gec too told about these things. They gave a proper idea of the college, the teachers and the academics. Another interesting fact was that, that was the golden jubilee year and we can expect a lot of cultural and technical programmes, but I was not in a situation to hear their words. I was thinking of many other things, and was totally unfamiliar with the GEC atmosphere.
Time ran away, and reached 11. The call for the next 30 persons came. We went to the seminar hall for the admission process. There the fellow brothers gave some papers and we are all set to fill them. I was totally irritated to sit inside that hall and it takes hours to get out of that hall. I didnt want to explain more. After admission we went out to search a good hostel for me. The brothers told me that it was better to look for a hostel now itself or it will be difficult to find one. We went to two or three places and finally got a good place, neat and clean, and a proper atmosphere to study. After that we went to canteen but we didnt get food. Then we were in search of a good hotel (but couldnt find any). Then my mother decided to do one thing. Go to home and had the food there. After a 1 hour journey I reached home and had delicious food. This was my first experience in this college.
Few words about GEC....
The Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur is one of the most prestigious institution of Technical Education in Kerala. The College started functioning in the Chempukkavu campus in of Maharaja Technological Institute in 1957.
The present college campus is spread over an area of 75 acres and is located at Ramavarmapuram whish is about 5 km from the heart of Thrissur town and about 6 km from Thrissur Railway station.
The foundation stone of the college was laid by late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, on 26th April 1958. The work on the main buildings, two men's hostels and laboratories were taken up straightaway and subsequently on their completion, the classes were shifted to the present campus in October 1960.
